    Creating knowledge is an important part of the Information Lifecycle, but often the management of it is the hardest part and the core reason for this is that knowledge is hard to define and identify.

    Some core characteristics that would help identify knowledge is that it has the potential to add strategic value to the organisation, it could help to drive innovation with clients and drive change throughout the organisation. These are what are known as assets. These assets then need to be managed by technology, particularly if they have a longer lifespan, to help the ease of access. Once they have been identified, the knowledge assets need to be classified and managed as part of the Lifecycle.
