In recent weeks, we have been asked to work on a number of taxonomy projects. We have written that the importance of a good strong taxonomy, and in all the work we have done on these projects backs up this statement.
In our projects taxonomy (or a controlled vocabulary) is being used to:
o Provide the information architecture of a website
o Provide the mapping for a financial payment system
o Provide the Syntax for a virtual assistant
The common theme through all of the projects is that the organisational speak common language that the staff use to interact with each other, rarely translates to common language or vocabulary in organisational systems. That disconnect is what makes finding information in organisations very difficult. Organisations that want to create efficient and effective organisations need to have taxonomy (and a Taxonomist!!! :).Leave a reply →
